Our Wedding Anniversary

Certain dates and times are punctuation points in our lives when we should reflect on what has happened in the saga of one's life.  Today is one of those moments.  An end in some sense to a chapter of our lives, and the point where a new chapter begins.  I'm not certain whether the punctuation is a period or some form of printers ornament.  Perhaps the ornament is simply a song played on the radio 48 years ago, at the time we wed.

Of course shortly after the big event 48 years ago today, when we got hitched, the Beatniks were puffing on some strange stuff, the Beach bums had gone on safari and the Brits invaded.

From Huntington to Malibu they had been shooting the pier:

Young girls screamed when the Brits came over:

Kennedy and Sam were shot dead and a change was coming:

It was a strange era.  We moved from Rock and Roll through Folk Music, through Protest Songs and Civil Rights and the Vietnam era shortly after we were hitched.  Nostalgia is one thing but History another, and the fondness we had for each other and "our song" gradually went the route of seriousness, as we endeavored to finish our education and become part of the class of those employed.  When I think on it much of the troubles we have today have their roots in that Vietnam era, and perhaps the music reflected the transition from playful carefree days of youth to serious consciousness of our times.  But it happened all too quickly and here we are at a chapter end reflecting on the lost playful and romantic days of youth.  Perhaps it's because we were students and they were "Golden Days in the sunshine of our happy youth.".

  1. So in Love...Still in love! Long time ago...so much water under the bridge! So many changes. A much simpler time in some ways and yet in some ways much more complex.
